What Did Lalita Pawar Say About Her Paralysis After Filming?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Dec 16 (NationPress) The late actress Lalita Pawar faced a life-altering moment when she became paralyzed due to a slap received while filming the 1942 movie "Jung-E-Azadi".
During a recent media interaction, she recounted this unfortunate event and the subsequent period of unemployment. She mentioned that after being approached by Bhagwan Dada for a directing opportunity, she was eager to be part of the project.
Describing the pivotal scene that changed her trajectory, she said, "A group of girls were bathing in a lake, and the comedian along with the hero approached. As the chief's daughter, I angrily exclaimed, 'What are you doing here? Can't you see the girls are bathing?' They responded with, 'We will stand here.' I emerged from the water, only to be slapped hard, causing me to collapse, after which they carried me away."
Tragically, Lalita fell unconscious during the performance, with blood oozing from her ears. The following day, she discovered she had become paralyzed and was taken to Bombay.
Her struggles continued as she received a notice from Chandrao Kadam, stating, "Due to your illness, our shooting has been halted. We have decided to cast another actress." This announcement led to the cancellation of all her contracts as the news spread.
Despite this setback, her contract for the film 'Amrit' remained unaffected. The filmmakers assured her that they would begin another project, but would only proceed with her film once she was well.
Fortunately, the project resumed two and a half years later when she finally recovered. They emphasized that the film would only be made if she played the role.
After this ordeal, she started receiving offers again, although most were character roles instead of leading ones.
