Kerala CM Vijayan Asserts LDF's Firm Stance Against Communalism Amid SDPI Allegations
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Malappuram (Kerala), March 29 (NationPress) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan emphatically reaffirmed on Sunday that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) holds a steadfast and unwavering position against all manifestations of communalism, categorically rejecting any allegations of ties to communal groups.
While addressing journalists in Malappuram, the Chief Minister responded to numerous inquiries concerning reports suggesting that the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) might offer support to the Left. He clearly stated that such assertions should be addressed to those propagating them, insisting that the LDF is not involved in such conjectures.
Vijayan expressed visible irritation at the continual questioning, accusing certain media outlets of trying to establish a misleading narrative.
"You arrived here with a predetermined agenda. Please put that aside. Are you attempting to disrupt this press conference?" he questioned.
The Chief Minister noted that these issues were not restricted to a single platform but were being raised broadly and urged reporters to seek clarification from the relevant parties.
When asked whether the CPI-M would accept votes from the SDPI, the Chief Minister refrained from giving a direct answer. However, he emphasized that the Left does not have any connections with any communal organizations, irrespective of whether they reflect majority or minority interests.
"Communalism manifests in both majority and minority forms in our country. We oppose all forms of communalism equally," asserted Vijayan.
He accused the media of trying to depict the LDF as being sympathetic to communal forces, a claim he firmly denied.
Reinforcing the ideological integrity of the Left, Vijayan stated that this is not a newly adopted stance for political expediency.
"This has been our position for decades, and there has been no deviation from it," he stated.
Shifting his critique towards the opposition, the Chief Minister questioned whether the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) shares a similar stance. He accused parts of the media of attempting to "sanitize" the image of the Congress and UDF, portraying them as free from communal influences while unfairly targeting the LDF.
"What is being attempted is to present the UDF and Congress as pure and unaffected by communalism, while casting the LDF in a negative light. Ultimately, it is up to the people to determine whether such narratives are credible," Vijayan concluded.
