Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Ernakulam, March 31 (NationPress) In a bold move, Kerala's Leader of the Opposition and seasoned Congress figure, V.D. Satheesan, has openly criticized Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for evading a public debate, claiming he continuously makes "misleading assertions" without facing scrutiny.
Satheesan expressed his disappointment over Vijayan's choice to sidestep a direct discussion, opting instead for social media engagement.
He had anticipated that the Chief Minister would set a date and location for the debate.
Satheesan noted, "When we (Congress) challenge his (Vijayan's) online assertions, we receive no response whatsoever."
Referencing housing statistics, Satheesan argued that Vijayan's statement regarding the construction of merely 4,000 homes during former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy's tenure was debunked by official records.
"Data has conclusively shown that over 4.43 lakh houses were actually built. This was revealed through information from his (Vijayan's) own Cabinet members. Yet, he has chosen to remain silent on this matter," the LoP remarked.
Addressing the sensitive topic regarding alliances with the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), Satheesan reiterated that the United Democratic Front (UDF) has firmly rejected any such support.
He accused Chief Minister Vijayan of taking an opportunistic approach, suggesting inconsistency in his dealings with groups like the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, SDPI, and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
"The UDF has been the first coalition to dismiss SDPI support. The Chief Minister must not overlook this fact," asserted Satheesan.
Moreover, Satheesan claimed that the CPI-M is trying to forge ties with both minority and majority communal factions for electoral advantages, but he firmly believes these attempts will not succeed in Kerala's secular environment.
In light of the murder of student Abhimanyu, Satheesan stated that Chief Minister Vijayan should apologize to the victim's family before engaging with the SDPI.
Regarding financial openness, Satheesan mentioned that details about the Congress's Wayanad housing initiative would be shared once it is finalized.
He also leveled serious allegations against the CPI-M, claiming that funds collected in the name of party martyrs have been misused.
Additionally, he criticized limitations placed on his media communication, asserting that Kerala is not "the Russia under Vladimir Putin or Joseph Stalin".
