Idukki, April 6 (NationPress) In a fierce and comprehensive critique of the ruling Left front in Kerala, V.D. Satheesan, the Leader of the Opposition, dismissed the government's progress report as a “collection of fabrications,” claiming that critical successes were inflated while significant shortcomings were intentionally obscured as the April 9 Assembly elections approach.

Satheesan asserted that the report had “contracted from 38 pages to 24,” which he interpreted as an effort to disguise the reality.

He contested the government's flagship housing initiative, noting that although five lakh homes were pledged in 2016, only about 4.5 lakh had been constructed over the past decade.

In contrast, he highlighted that the administration under Oommen Chandy managed to complete nearly five lakh homes in just five years.

The Opposition leader further accused the LDF of failing to uphold welfare promises.

He stated that the commitment to increase social security pensions from Rs 1,600 to Rs 2,000 and subsequently to Rs 2,500 had largely not been met, alleging that this increase was only implemented right before elections.

Similar accusations were made regarding the failure to implement a Rs 250 support price for rubber.

In the healthcare arena, Satheesan charged that numerous initiatives started during the previous UDF government, including Karunya, had been weakened or terminated, effectively placing the system “on life support.”

He also claimed that subsidies for fishermen had been reduced despite escalating fuel prices, and that a promised Rs 12,000 crore package for the sector existed solely on paper.

Taking aim at Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Satheesan accused him of falsely taking credit for significant infrastructure projects like the Vizhinjam port, which he asserted had been initiated during the UDF regime.

He criticized the management of land disputes in Idukki, labeling the assertion that all issues had been resolved as a “blatant falsehood,” with land title and forest land cases still unresolved.

The Opposition leader portrayed a dire scenario of governance, citing unfilled vacancies in universities, declining agricultural incomes, and ineffective procurement systems.

He declared that the government’s report was “a pile of untruths,” asserting that the “people's verdict” would be rendered on polling day.

Satheesan also accused the CPI(M) of disseminating misinformation regarding financial matters linked to Wayanad and expressed serious concerns about the misuse of funds collected in the name of martyrs.

He questioned the ruling party’s position on organizations like the SDPI and criticized both Left and BJP leaders, including Rajeev Chandrasekhar, for what he referred to as political opportunism.

Calling for responsible public dialogue, Satheesan reaffirmed that the UDF is dedicated to transparent and accountable governance, contrasting it with the “arrogance and deceit” of the current administration.
