Key Takeaways
Amaravati, Jan 27 (NationPress) Andhra Pradesh Minister and TDP General Secretary Nara Lokesh stated on Tuesday that his ‘Yuva Galam’ padayatra was a transformative journey that grounded him and connected him to the struggles faced by diverse groups of people. On the third anniversary of his extensive walkathon, the Minister for Human Resources Development and Information Technology took to X to express his reflections.
Lokesh, son of Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N. Chandrababu Naidu, emphasized that his political journey was influenced by the challenges and aspirations of the populace.
“This journey has profoundly connected me to the struggles of farmers, women, youth, workers, teachers, students, entrepreneurs, weavers, senior citizens, and the marginalized across Andhra Pradesh. I extend my gratitude to every mother and sister for their blessings, and to every citizen who shared their honesty, hope, and courage with me. My political path has been shaped by your struggles and dreams,” he remarked.
“With unwavering conviction, I assert: every policy we devise, every decision we make, embodies your voices and your lives at its heart. Three years later, I reaffirm my commitment - to be your soldier, your champion, and to always stand by your side,” Lokesh added.
During a workshop for TDP parliamentary committees, Lokesh urged for increased opportunities for youth within the party. He pointed out the necessity for the party to adapt to evolving times and to provide fresh opportunities to young leaders at all levels.
He noted that 83 percent of the members in parliamentary committees have been appointed for the first time, emphasizing that those who demonstrate dedication have been included in these panels.
Lokesh mentioned that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is steering the government with a dual focus on development and welfare. He encouraged party members to effectively communicate the government’s initiatives to the public.
On January 27, 2023, Lokesh initiated the ‘Yuva Galam’ padayatra, which spanned over 3,000 kilometers and covered nearly 100 Assembly constituencies.
The TDP described this event as a pivotal moment in Andhra Pradesh’s political and civic narrative, claiming it revolutionized public engagement, enhanced democratic outreach, and fortified people-centric governance.
The journey commenced from Kuppam in Chittoor district, blessed by public enthusiasm, gathering thousands of supporters as Lokesh began his march with a simple yet profound vow -- to walk alongside the populace, hear their struggles, and make their voices the cornerstone of policy and governance, stated the TDP.
“Over 226 days, the Yuva Galam Padayatra covered more than 3,100 kilometers, engaging with citizens in 97 Assembly constituencies and connecting with individuals across every district -- from rural communities to urban centers. This endeavor resonated politically, with alliance candidates winning in 90 of the 97 constituencies the Padayatra traversed -- a strong indication of the movement’s deep connection with public sentiment,” it remarked.
Throughout the journey, Lokesh walked an average of 10-12 kilometers daily, engaging with farmers, workers, students, women’s groups, entrepreneurs, and senior citizens -- earnestly listening to their challenges regarding employment, education, infrastructure, agricultural distress, water scarcity, and opportunities for youth.
Despite facing political and logistical hurdles, including temporary disruptions, the Padayatra persisted, delivering a clear message: effective leadership must arise from the grassroots, maintaining ongoing dialogue with the people. It established a new benchmark for public engagement in Andhra Pradesh politics, revitalizing community participation and inspiring youth leadership statewide.
