New Delhi, Aug 8 (NationPress) The Lok Sabha was suspended until noon on Friday due to continuous disruptions by opposition members during the Question Hour, even after tributes were paid to the deceased and calls for decorum were made by Speaker Om Birla.
As the day's proceedings began, Speaker Birla announced the passing of former Governor and veteran politician Satpal Malik. Members from various parties observed a moment of silence and expressed their gratitude for his public service.
The House also celebrated the 83rd anniversary of the 'Bharat Chhodo Andolan' (Quit India Movement), which the nation will recognize on Saturday. The House honored the 'Father of the Nation' Mahatma Gandhi for inspiring the country during this movement, his urgent call for independence, and paid respects to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for India's freedom.
However, the atmosphere quickly became chaotic as the Question Hour commenced.
Opposition MPs shouted slogans like “We want justice” and “Stop the theft of votes”, drowning out ministerial responses and disrupting the session.
Speaker Birla repeatedly implored members to maintain order, reminding them, “The entire country is watching you. You are responsible for disrupting the proceedings every day.”
Amid the noise, several MPs attempted to address pressing constituency issues. Kalicharan Singh (BJP, Chatra) and Rajesh Mishra (BJP, Sidhi) questioned the government about the severe shortage of doctors and gaps in health infrastructure.
Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel responded, although her remarks were mostly inaudible due to the uproar.
Utkarsh Verma (SP, Khiri) sought information on fertilizer supply in Uttar Pradesh, directing his inquiry to Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda.
Harsimrat Kaur Badal (SAD, Bathinda) also raised concerns regarding the shortage of DAP fertilizer in Punjab.
Other members, including Harish Balyogi (TDP, Amalapuram), Janardan Singh Sigriwal, and Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu (TDP, Narsaraopet), attempted to engage with Minister of Ayush Pratap Rao Ganpat Rao Jadav on health-related issues.
Despite these attempts, the growing chaos forced Speaker Birla to adjourn the House until noon, marking yet another day of disrupted procedures in the Monsoon Session.
