New Delhi, July 24 (NationPress) On the fourth day of Lok Sabha, the atmosphere in the House remained tumultuous as Opposition members surged into the well, chanting slogans right after the session commenced on Thursday. This led to a stern rebuke from Speaker Om Birla, who not only reminded the protesting Congress MPs of their party's illustrious history but also cautioned them against such 'antics' within the House.

Clearly exasperated by the recurring uproar from the Opposition, Om Birla directed his comments towards senior Parliamentarian K.C. Venugopal, questioning, “Do you teach them these tactics to disturb the House?” in reference to the loud protests and slogan-shouting from the Congress MPs.

The LS Speaker emphasized that Parliament is meant for discussing public matters, not for protests, urging the lawmakers to amend their behavior as the nation and its citizens are watching closely.

For the fourth consecutive day, a deadlock persisted between the government and the Opposition, resulting in the halting of legislative processes.

The Congress-led Opposition has been insisting on an immediate discussion regarding the ECI’s voters list revision in Bihar, labeling it a ‘government-sponsored’ move to disenfranchise certain voter groups.

The disruptions took place during the Question Hour. Objecting to this, Speaker Om Birla advised the protesting lawmakers to refrain from such actions as they undermine the democratic process of addressing the public's concerns.

“Accountability and transparency are the pillars of our democracy. Everyone should strive to uphold the dignity and decorum of the House. As the world's largest democracy, we must set a positive example,” he stated.

When Om Birla’s attempts to restore order proved ineffective, he increased his volume and confronted K.C. Venugopal regarding the ongoing slogan-shouting and placard-waving in the House.

“You belong to a historic party that has many precedents of establishing new standards and norms of good conduct, yet the current generation of leaders appears to be straying,” Birla remarked to the protesting MPs.

Referring to the incessant sloganeering and placard displays, the LS Speaker expressed his disbelief at the conduct of today’s leaders, deeming it unacceptable.

“You are squandering taxpayers’ money. Voters sent you to Parliament not to disrupt the proceedings but to advocate for their issues,” he emphasized.

He also cautioned against the waving of placards, declaring that such behavior would not be tolerated.

Point of View

I emphasize that the current chaos in the Lok Sabha highlights a critical need for decorum and respect for democratic processes. While the Opposition raises vital concerns, the manner of dissent must not overshadow the essence of parliamentary dialogue. The nation expects its leaders to uphold the dignity of the House and engage constructively.
