New Delhi, March 16 (NationPress) K.C. Venugopal, a Lok Sabha MP and general secretary of the Congress party, has called upon Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to lift the suspension imposed on eight Opposition MPs for the duration of the Budget Session. “A decision needs to be made,” stated Venugopal as he raised this matter immediately after the Question Hour.
“We raised this issue on Friday. Our eight members are currently suspended and are forced to remain outside,” he added.
Voicing his unease regarding the treatment of the eight Opposition MPs, Venugopal remarked, “This House has seen numerous protests, not limited to just a single day.”
In a social media post, Venugopal expressed, “I stood in the Lok Sabha to address the unjust suspension of 8 Opposition MPs for this session.”
“Parliament has experienced countless protests, yet the suspension of MPs represents a troubling trend that should not continue. This suspension must be revoked without delay,” he asserted.
Earlier, Speaker Birla, after listening to Venugopal, ruled that the matter raised cannot be opened for discussion.
The recently defeated no-confidence motion filed by the Opposition against the Lok Sabha Speaker also highlighted the suspension of the eight MPs. It stated that on February 3, these eight MPs were “unjustly suspended” for the remainder of the Budget Session, which equates to punishing members for exercising their democratic rights.
