Madhya Pradesh Accelerates PNG Initiative While Targeting LPG Black Marketing
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhopal, April 20 (NationPress) Madhya Pradesh is actively enhancing its transition to piped natural gas (PNG), as the state administration intensifies initiatives to increase connections, despite a significant portion of the current network remaining underutilized.
On Monday, State Food and Civil Supplies Minister Govind Singh Rajput stated that the priority is now on transforming pipeline coverage into engaged users, while maintaining stringent measures against LPG black marketing.
Illustrating the current scenario, the Minister noted that PNG infrastructure has been established in various urban areas throughout the state, yet many households and businesses have yet to connect.
Official evaluations reveal that although city gas networks have expanded into numerous districts, the actual number of domestic PNG connections is considerably below expectations, highlighting a disconnect between availability and uptake.
“Consumers should consider opting for PNG connections where pipelines are already established. It ensures a consistent and safe supply while reducing reliance on LPG cylinders,” Rajput emphasized.
He further mentioned that a focused, time-sensitive campaign is set to launch to bridge this gap. Camps will be organized and approvals will be expedited over the next three months to connect both households and commercial entities that have pipeline access.
The state is also hastening the Right of Use (RoU) approvals to facilitate quicker network expansion by city gas distribution companies.
“We are consistently working across the state to combat black marketing and guarantee that essential goods reach legitimate consumers,” the Minister stated, referring to actions taken under the Essential Commodities Act.
Detailing the crackdown, Rajput revealed that inspections have occurred at 2,938 sites, resulting in the confiscation of 4,547 LPG cylinders and the lodging of 12 FIRs.
“We have also conducted inspections at 765 petrol stations, with FIRs filed where discrepancies were identified,” he said.
Reassuring the public, he confirmed that fuel availability remains stable. “There are no interruptions in the supply of LPG, petrol, diesel, PNG, or CNG. Sufficient stocks are on hand, and all refineries are functioning at full capacity,” Rajput affirmed.
The Minister highlighted that PNG connections are being prioritized for institutions, government facilities, and industrial entities situated near existing pipelines, while expansion into new regions continues concurrently.
This push for PNG is part of a broader strategy aimed at alleviating pressure on LPG distribution and advocating for cleaner fuel usage.
“Fuel supply in the state is secure. Residents should remain calm and embrace cleaner, more efficient energy alternatives,” he stated.
Rajput also pointed out that alternative energy solutions, such as biogas and solar cooking, are being promoted, with directives issued to operationalize compressed biogas projects and maximize the utilization of existing plants across districts.
