Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 10 (NationPress) In a move aimed at enhancing accessibility to revenue administration, the Maharashtra Government has officially unveiled plans for the establishment of 11 new Additional Collector offices throughout the state.
During a session in the Assembly, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule described this initiative as a significant step toward decentralizing authority and providing quicker, more efficient services to the public.
With the state's population on the rise and remote areas grappling with geographical hurdles, these new offices will alleviate the need for citizens to travel long distances to district headquarters.
Minister Bawankule emphasized that senior revenue professionals will now be more accessible, ensuring that land, revenue, and related issues are resolved more swiftly.
The Cabinet has granted final approval for the establishment of offices in Thane, Ratnagiri, Pune (Baramati), Satara, Solapur, Jalgaon, Nanded, Amravati, Yavatmal, Buldhana, and Nagpur.
To further aid the Settlement Commissioner’s office, the addition of two more posts of Additional Collector has been sanctioned, bringing the total number of new posts to 143, as endorsed by the high-level secretaries’ committee.
Each new Additional Collector office will be staffed with 13 dedicated officers and employees.
The Cabinet approved these positions under the ‘S-25’ senior pay scale during a meeting on February 10, 2026, according to the minister.
In response to MLA Nana Patole’s request for similar services in Sakoli and Hinganghat, Minister Bawankule indicated, “After the 2027 Census, we can reassess district structures. For the time being, we are focused on delivering administrative services directly to the citizens through these Additional Collector offices. A dedicated meeting regarding Sakoli and Hinganghat will be convened soon, leading to favorable results.”
Addressing concerns regarding increasing workloads in urban areas like Nagpur, Minister Bawankule announced, “The Government is seriously contemplating the establishment of independent Tehsil offices in every urban assembly constituency. Detailed discussions with the Revenue Department are ongoing, and a decisive policy will be established shortly.”
He also revealed that proposals for 69 new Additional Tehsildar offices and 10 new Prant offices are nearing final approval. These reforms, once implemented, will transform Maharashtra's revenue system, making it faster, more transparent, and oriented towards citizen needs.
“This ambitious initiative highlights the Government’s steadfast commitment to effective governance, decentralization, and empowering every citizen with easy access to essential services,” he remarked.
