Kolkata, May 24 (NationPress) Following the absence of West Bengal's Chief Minister from the significant NITI Aayog meeting in New Delhi on Saturday, a political uproar has ensued between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP in the state.
BJP's Rajya Sabha member and spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya criticized the Chief Minister, recalling her departure from last year's meeting when she made unfounded claims about her microphone being muted during her address.
"West Bengal is facing severe financial challenges, with rising unemployment and issues concerning migrant workers being critical. Under these circumstances, the Chief Minister should have participated in the meeting to explore solutions by collaborating with the Union government. Instead, she opted to skip it to bolster her political pride, compromising the state's interests," he asserted.
On the other hand, Trinamool Congress state vice president Jay Prakash Majumdar defended the Chief Minister, stating, "It was evident last year that the Union government was not interested in hearing our Chief Minister, evidenced by her microphone being muted during her speech. This was a blatant insult. Why would she subject herself to further humiliation by attending again?"
It is noteworthy that during the previous NITI Aayog meeting on July 27 last year, Mamata Banerjee expressed her grievances about being restricted to just five minutes of speaking time, while other representatives had been allotted 10 to 20 minutes.
Nonetheless, the Union Government refuted her claims via a statement from the Press Information Bureau (PIB), asserting that her speaking time had indeed concluded, and the bell to indicate her time was not rung.
Interestingly, Mamata Banerjee was the sole Chief Minister from a non-NDA governed state to attend the NITI Aayog meeting, despite many Chief Ministers from the opposition INDIA bloc opting to boycott it. Her decision led to speculation among some opposition members regarding a potential secret alliance between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress.
