Bhubaneswar, Aug 13 (NationPress) A dedicated POCSO court in Jharsuguda district of Odisha has sentenced a 54-year-old man to life imprisonment for the heinous crime of raping a blind minor girl in the Rengali police station area this past May.

According to the details of the case, on May 2, the victim, a blind minor, had gone to visit the accused, Giridhari Naik, at his house to watch television. As a neighbor, she frequently visited him for this purpose.

Exploiting a moment when his family was asleep, Giridhari forcefully assaulted the girl, covering her mouth to muffle her cries. He also threatened to take her life if she dared to tell anyone about the incident.

The following day, the young girl bravely confided in her father about the horrific event, who promptly registered a First Information Report (FIR) at the Rengali Police Station on May 6.

Local law enforcement acted swiftly, apprehending Giridhari on May 8.

On May 28, after thoroughly investigating the case, the Jharsuguda Police submitted their chargesheet within just 22 days of the FIR.

The court, having reviewed witness statements and evidence presented by the police, delivered its verdict within 99 days of the FIR's filing.
