Imphal, Dec 14 (NationPress) The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, called on the citizens to promote the ideals of peace and harmony championed by the illustrious Indian theatre figure Ratan Thiyam through artistic expressions.
The Padma Shri awardee and legendary theatre artist, Ratan Thiyam, passed away in Imphal on July 23 this year, leaving an impactful legacy that transformed the landscape of contemporary Indian theatre.
During a national seminar honoring the acclaimed theatre maestro, the Governor emphasized Thiyam's remarkable contributions to Indian and Manipuri theatre, highlighting his iconic productions such as Chakravyuha, Uttar Priyadarshi, and Nine Hills One Valley, which conveyed powerful messages of peace, harmony, and cultural continuity.
Over his illustrious career spanning over fifty years, Ratan Thiyam showcased Manipur on the international cultural stage, serving as a true ambassador of the state's rich heritage.
Governor Bhalla also reflected on Thiyam's diverse talents as a director, playwright, designer, choreographer, and writer.
He expressed hope that the discussions at the seminar would motivate emerging theatre artists, urging everyone to continue spreading Ratan Thiyam's message of peace and harmony through the arts.
The Governor praised the Manipur State Kala Akademi (MSKA) and the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA) for collaboratively organizing the two-day seminar at the JNMDA auditorium in Imphal.
Alongside First Lady Jyoti Bhalla, the Governor led the attendees in a floral tribute to the portrait of the late cultural icon, Ratan Thiyam, at the JNMDA campus.
