Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Raipur/Narayanpur, Feb 26 (NationPress) In a major crackdown on Naxal operations, the Battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, in collaboration with the Narayanpur district police, successfully unearthed a considerable store of explosives, weaponry, and assorted items from a Maoist hideout nestled in the dense forests of Kumuradi village in Chhattisgarh.
This operation unfolded on Wednesday (February 25) after the team at Camp Mandora received credible intelligence, according to officials.
A strategically organized Area Dominance Patrolling team undertook an extensive search in the challenging terrain, resulting in the discovery of a concealed Naxal cache. The joint forces acted promptly to secure the area and confiscate the materials, thwarting their potential utilization by Maoist factions in the vicinity.
The haul included nearly 100 meters of prima cord, 20 meters each of safety and orange fuses, around 35 kilograms of "sutli bombs" (crafted from jute twine), 38 kilograms of brown fertilizer powder, and 18 kilograms of improvised explosives. Other significant finds comprised 2.5 kilograms of charcoal, five AMN (Ammo) pouches, one improvised rocket launcher, 13 rocket launcher cells, 19 heavy mortar cells, 11 light mortar cells, one large improvised BGL launcher, one small improvised BGL (barrel grade launcher), and a total of 35 assorted BGL cartridges in various sizes.
Additionally, security forces retrieved 70 long-range BGL rounds, 55 short-range BGL rounds, two improvised hand grenades, and ample medical supplies and medications.
This cache underscores the Naxal groups' capacity to produce modern and improvised weaponry, including components for rockets, mortars, and grenades, as well as essential supplies for survival and medical assistance in isolated regions.
The recovery marks a significant blow to the operational capabilities of Maoists in this region of Chhattisgarh, where such depots often function as launch pads for attacks or ambushes.
During the operation, security personnel ensured the careful handling and removal of the hazardous materials.
Officials highlighted that the success of this operation was due to precise intelligence and effective collaboration between the ITBP unit and local law enforcement.
Efforts are ongoing to maintain a strong presence in the area, with continued search operations aimed at dismantling the remaining Naxal infrastructure and reducing their influence. Authorities remain alert in the forested regions, striving to restore normalcy and safety for local communities long affected by the conflict.
This recent success contributes to the ongoing anti-Naxal initiatives across the Narayanpur district.
