Los Angeles, Jan 23 (NationPress) Hollywood actor Martin Short revealed that he nearly disrupted the wedding of singer-actress Selena Gomez and producer Benny Blanco.

The incident occurred when the actor mistakenly sliced into their cake before it was officially served, according to ‘Female First UK’.

The 75-year-old actor thought the small heart-shaped cake, located near where he and the 33-year-old actress’ ‘Only Murders in the Building’ co-stars and crew were seated, was intended for the guests.

On a recent episode of ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’, Martin described Selena and the 37-year-old record producer Benny's wedding, held in Santa Barbara, California on September 27, 2025, as “perfect” until his blunder occurred just an hour before the cake presentation.

Martin recounted, “It was a big, big party, with large tents and individual seating areas at the back, equipped with couches and chairs for groups like ours, which included about 12 members of the ‘Only Murders in the Building’ cast, like Dan Fogelman and Paul Rudd with his wife Julie. There was a small wedding cake by our section, and I just assumed there was a cake for each group in the back.”

As reported by ‘Female First UK’, Steve Martin, 80, had to depart the celebration, which also featured stars like pop icon Taylor Swift, 36, and singer Ed Sheeran, 34, but Martin couldn’t let his co-star leave without a piece of cake.

After a few hours without the wedding cake being cut, Martin said, “Steve announced he was leaving. I had a fork in my hand and said, ‘Oh, wait a minute, you can’t leave without having some wedding cake!’ So, I cut into the wedding cake, slicing one side, then the other, and everyone in our group yelled, ‘Marty!’”

Martin added, “It was the wedding cake.” A picture of the cake, adorned with “Just Married” icing, was then shown, revealing the significant cut and fork marks. After the audience gasped, Martin joked, “I tried to fix it with a fork. This was bad. This was about an hour before it was to be presented. So, I turned to Paul Rudd and asked, ‘So, do we just leave?’ Then they summoned the wedding coordinator, and the chef arrived.”

Imitating the French chef, Martin recounted, “He was like, ‘What the hell happened here?’ They performed some cake ‘surgery,’ and it turned out to be like a Hollywood wedding cake—still beautiful, but it had a little work done.”

As the audience laughed, a lovely image of Selena and Benny appeared on screen, showing the wedding cake positioned at an angle to hide Martin's attempted cut.
