New Delhi, Nov 5 (NationPress) Maruti Suzuki India, recognized as the largest car manufacturer in the nation, announced on Wednesday that it has surpassed a significant milestone of 3 crore total car sales within the domestic market.
The company revealed that it took 28 years and 2 months to achieve its first crore of sales, while the subsequent crore was sold in a remarkable 7 years and 5 months.
The third crore milestone was reached even more swiftly — in just 6 years and 4 months, underscoring the brand's increasing appeal among Indian consumers.
Among the 3 crore cars sold in India, the Maruti Alto stands out as the top-selling model with over 47 lakh units sold.
Following closely are the Wagon R with around 34 lakh units and the Swift with more than 32 lakh units. Notably, compact SUVs like the Brezza and the newly launched Fronx also secured spots in the company’s top ten bestsellers.
Maruti Suzuki delivered its very first vehicle, the iconic Maruti 800, to a customer on December 14, 1983. Since that date, the company has evolved into a household name in India, currently offering over 170 variants across 19 models.
Expressing appreciation for this achievement, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India, remarked that the milestone fills him with “humility and gratitude.”
“When I consider the vastness of India and recognize that 3 crore customers have placed their trust in Maruti Suzuki to fulfill their dreams of mobility, it truly fills me with humility and gratitude,” he stated.
He further noted that with car ownership in India remaining at approximately 33 vehicles per 1,000 people, there exists considerable potential for further growth.
“Our journey is far from complete. We will persist in making every effort to bring the joy of mobility to as many individuals as possible while contributing positively to both the economy and the environment,” Takeuchi asserted.
The company reiterated its commitment to broadening access to affordable, reliable mobility for Indian families while upholding a focus on innovation and sustainability.
