Is Good Governance Exemplified by the Waste Clearance for Rashtriya Prerna Sthal in Lucknow?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Lucknow, Dec 18 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to arrive in Lucknow on December 25 to officially open the Rashtriya Prerna Sthal, a national motivational site honoring prominent leaders such as Syama Prasad Mukherjee, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
In preparation for this event, A.K. Sharma, the Uttar Pradesh Minister for Urban Development, along with Lucknow Mayor Sushma Kharakwal, conducted an inspection of the site on Thursday.
In an interview with IANS, A.K. Sharma stated, “The park spans approximately 80–85 acres and will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 25. Until three years ago, over one-third of this area was dominated by a substantial garbage dump, which posed significant issues for locals. Given that this park is being created in memory of Atal ji, Deendayal Upadhyaya, and Syama Prasad Mukherjee, it is vital that there is no trace of dirt. This inspection was conducted with that goal in mind.”
He continued, “We managed to clear approximately 6.5 lakh metric tonnes of waste. I commend the entire Municipal Corporation team for their outstanding efforts. They successfully disposed of nearly 6.5 lakh metric tonnes of garbage and reclaimed about 32 acres of land. Previously, people would have to cover their noses while passing through this area due to the stench. Now, we have transformed it into an inspiring park covering nearly 80–85 acres.
Sharma emphasized, “December 25 is the birth anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji, a day we celebrate as Sushasan Divas. The act of removing 6.5 lakh metric tonnes of waste from 32 acres and converting it into such a splendid park is a testament to good governance. This Prerna Park will stand as a significant heritage site not just for India, but for the whole world. Had we not removed the garbage, this land would have remained unusable, making it impossible for anyone to even step foot here.”
Lucknow Mayor Sushma Kharakwal remarked, “We are organizing a grand celebration on the birth anniversary of our former Prime Minister Atal ji, who also served as an MP from Lucknow and is our guiding figure. This site previously held nearly 6.5 lakh metric tonnes of waste, which we have diligently worked to eliminate. Today, it is hard to imagine that such a massive garbage dump was once here.”
