Today, the Chief Minister launched the Counter-Insurgency-Anti-Terrorism (CIAT) School and the Integrated Police Welfare Complex located in Baghmara, South Garo Hills.
He remarked, “Ensuring law and order is a fundamental responsibility of any government. Every incremental effort to bolster the police force plays a significant role in achieving the broader objective of safety and stability in the state. I trust that the force will maintain this dedication moving forward.”
The Chief Minister highlighted that the strategic positioning of this complex creates an optimal setting for training not only for Meghalaya Police personnel but also for officers from various states and countries.
“The advantages of the counter-insurgency and anti-terrorism school stem from the area's dense forests, challenging tropical climate, and rugged terrain, which make it a prime location for advanced training programs,” he explained.
He stressed the necessity of ongoing innovation and development in training, particularly as law enforcement and counter-terrorism issues evolve over time.
“I urge our officials to ensure this facility is utilized effectively and consistently improved to adapt to the modern demands of policing, technology, and counter-terrorism strategies, especially given our proximity to the state border. Continuous innovation and development in training are essential,” Sangma added.
The complex comprises six key elements: a Police Hospital/Dispensary, Officers’ Mess, Police Welfare Training Centre, Sports Complex, and Recreational Centre. It also features an access road and an overhead water tank.
Constructed from February 2022 to January 2026, this facility illustrates the government's dedication to enhancing morale, efficiency, training standards, and overall welfare of the police force.
The inauguration event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister I/c Home Prestone Tynsong, Minister of Education Lahkmen Rymbui, Director General of Police I. Nongrang, Chief Secretary Shakil P. Ahammed, along with senior civil and police officials, and other esteemed guests.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong expressed his enthusiasm for the inauguration, stating that “Baghmara will now receive equal attention and development akin to other districts.”
He underscored the significance of this complex for both police personnel and the community, asserting that it will motivate and support officers in serving the residents of the state, particularly in this district.
