Key Takeaways
Ahmedabad/Gandhinagar, March 18 (NationPress) The 'Millet Mahotsav and Natural Farmer Market' is set to take place across 16 municipal corporations in Gujarat on March 21 and 22. The main celebration will occur at the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad, as announced by the state's Agriculture Minister Jitu Vaghani on Wednesday.
Organised by the Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation under the auspices of the state Agriculture Department, this two-day event will simultaneously unfold in cities like Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Gandhinagar, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Navsari, Vapi, Nadiad, Mehsana, Surendranagar, Morbi, Porbandar, and Gandhidham.
Various dignitaries and ministers are anticipated to attend events in different locations.
Vaghani shared insights after a cabinet meeting, stating that the festival is themed “Earth’s Gold — Adopt Shree Anna, Attain a Healthy Life”, aimed at promoting millets in alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Shree Anna’ initiative.
Approximately 85 stalls will be featured at the Sabarmati Riverfront event in Ahmedabad, with a total of 620 stalls across other cities.
These stalls are provided at no cost to farmer groups, farmer producer organisations, and individual cultivators.
This initiative aims to empower farmers to sell millet products directly to consumers, thereby diminishing the influence of intermediaries and enhancing profit margins.
The festival will include millet exhibitions, food festivals, an agri-technology zone, as well as stalls from agri-startups and women entrepreneurs.
Guests will have the opportunity to purchase millet-based products and taste freshly prepared dishes made from millets.
Vaghani emphasized that millets and natural farming complement each other, highlighting their low water requirements and suitability for cultivation without chemical fertilizers, making them ideal for cow-based farming practices.
Under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the state government is committed to promoting natural farming and improving farmers’ earnings through such initiatives.
