Bhopal, June 30 (NationPress) In light of serious corruption allegations associated with the ₹30,000 crore Jal Jeevan Mission, the Madhya Pradesh Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department has deemed the complaint against Minister Sampatiya Uike as “baseless.”
This declaration follows a formal complaint lodged by former legislator Kishor Samrite with the Prime Minister’s Office.
Chief Engineer Sanjay Andhavan promptly initiated an internal investigation. However, the narrative shifted when officials later referred to the allegations as “baseless.”
In a statement released on Monday evening, Chief Engineer Andhavan characterized the allegations as “baseless, fabricated, and malicious.”
He cited a report from the Executive Engineer of Balaghat, asserting that no irregularities were discovered under the Jal Jeevan Mission, and the complaint was based solely on a previously disclosed RTI response, lacking any new evidence.
The complaint alleges that the minister received a significant commission from funds designated for rural drinking water initiatives.
Additionally, it implicates a former Chief Engineer accused of misappropriating a substantial amount through his subordinate. Other allegations include ghost projects, fraudulent completion certificates, and unauthorized fund withdrawals in districts such as Betul, Chhindwara, and Balaghat.
In reaction, the Chief Engineer’s office has instructed all PHE Chief Engineers and the Project Director of MP Jal Nigam to provide detailed reports within seven days.
The inquiry aims to investigate the utilization of central funds under the Jal Jeevan Mission and examine the assets of Minister Uike and the Executive Engineer of Mandla, who allegedly deposited funds on her behalf.
Despite the department’s dismissal of the allegations, complainant Kishor Samrite insists that the response only addressed the Balaghat district, while the inquiry letter requested a state-wide investigation.
He plans to file a petition in court to enforce a thorough government response. This case has sparked significant political and administrative discussions, with increasing calls for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe.
