Aizawl, April 16 (NationPress) The Governor of Mizoram, General Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd), officially initiated the intensive houselisting and housing census operations for Census 2027 at Lok Bhavan in Aizawl.
The Governor called on all census field personnel to perform their roles with the highest level of commitment and integrity, ensuring that no household is overlooked.
He highlighted the necessity of clearly communicating the census procedure to those who might struggle with comprehension, guaranteeing that every individual and household receives accurate enumeration.
General Singh described this initiative as India's inaugural digital census, expressing his confidence in its successful execution and urging the public to fully cooperate with census officials and enumerators.
During the event, H. Lalremruati, designated as Enumerator for Lok Bhavan, effectively entered the necessary information using the Self Enumeration ID (SE ID) generated from the Governor’s own self-enumeration exercise conducted on April 7, 2026.
This marked the Governor’s formal completion of his own houselisting and housing census process.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Directorate of Census Operations, including Joseph H. Lalramsanga, Municipal Commissioner and Principal Census Officer; Irene Zohlimpuii Chongthu, Additional Secretary of the General Administration Department (GAD) and Additional State Nodal Officer; along with several other officials.
A senior officer indicated that Census 2027, recognized as India’s first digital census, will be executed in two distinct phases.
The first phase, which encompasses houselisting and housing census, commenced on April 1, 2026. The second phase, focusing on population enumeration, is slated for February 2027.
Throughout the first phase, self-enumeration was conducted nationwide from April 1 to April 15, 2026. The houselisting and housing census operations will proceed from April 16 to May 15, 2026.
Additionally, Chief Minister Lalduhoma successfully completed his self-enumeration under Phase I (houselisting and housing census) of Census 2027 at his official residence on April 1.
An official noted that the self-enumeration process was executed through a newly launched online portal, aided by personnel from the Aizawl Municipal Corporation, the General Administration Department, and the Directorate of Census Operations.
