Srinagar, Oct 8 (NationPress) The infiltration of terrorists from across the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kashmir Valley has significantly decreased due to enhanced surveillance and the deployment of modern equipment by security forces, stated IG BSF Frontier (Kashmir) on Wednesday.
According to IG BSF Frontier (Kashmir), Ashok Yadav, during a press briefing, infiltration attempts from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) have failed due to the vigilance of security forces and the employment of advanced surveillance technology along the LoC in Kashmir.
The senior BSF official noted that there are intelligence reports indicating that terrorists are currently positioned at launch pads on the opposite side of the LoC. He emphasized that the proactive stance of the BSF and the army, bolstered by modern surveillance tools, has ensured the failure of these infiltration attempts.
“As we approach winter in about two months, it is likely that terrorists will continue to attempt infiltration, but our area domination will guarantee that any effort will be detected and thwarted,” he remarked.
He further pointed out the challenges in estimating the exact number of terrorists awaiting infiltration at the launch pads since these figures are subject to change.
“All terrorists at the launch pads are foreign nationals. While the numbers fluctuate, intelligence assessments suggest that there are typically around 100 to 120 terrorists present at any given time,” he added.
Regarding reports of the terror group Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) collaborating with the Islamic State, the officer mentioned that such developments are meticulously monitored by intelligence agencies.
“Based on our analyses, we adapt our operational strategies in conjunction with all security forces. We are aware of the situation and are implementing countermeasures accordingly,” he stated.
In Jammu and Kashmir, the LoC spans approximately 740 km, while the international border (IB) extends 240 km. The LoC traverses the Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora districts in the Valley, along with parts of Poonch, Rajouri, and Jammu district.
The IB runs through the Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts in the Jammu division. While the army is responsible for securing the LoC, the BSF oversees the IB.
Additionally, the BSF manages certain LoC posts in the Valley and acts as a secondary line of defense after the army to neutralize any terrorists who may have successfully crossed the LoC.
