PM Modi: Insult to President Murmu Offends Tribal Community
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, March 14 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally in Kolkata, stating that the disrespect shown to President Droupadi Murmu during her recent visit to West Bengal is fundamentally an affront to the entire tribal community across the nation, especially since the President originates from a tribal background.
"The tribal people in West Bengal have long been denied their rightful share in development under the current Trinamool Congress administration. They have consistently faced ridicule and disrespect. However, the recent incident involving the President during her visit has crossed all boundaries," the Prime Minister remarked while speaking at the Brigade Parade Ground, concluding the party’s "Parivartan Yatra" ahead of the Assembly elections in West Bengal this year.
He emphasized that the Trinamool Congress struggles to accept that Droupadi Murmu has attained such a distinguished position from a tribal background. "The President felt deeply saddened by these events," he added.
Last week, there was a significant protocol violation during the President’s visit to the Darjeeling district for the International Santal Conclave. Initially, police denied permission for the venue chosen by the organizers in Phansidewa and designated a much smaller location in Gossaipur instead.
Furthermore, neither Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee nor any members of the West Bengal Cabinet were present to welcome her, which was again viewed as a serious breach of protocol.
The President herself expressed her dissatisfaction with the situation. In response, the Chief Minister claimed that the President was merely "playing into the hands of the BJP."
During the Brigade rally, Prime Minister Modi, without naming the Chief Minister, criticized her for recent remarks suggesting that unity among a specific community could lead to unrest.
"Can someone in a constitutional role make such statements? This implies that a particular community poses a threat to others. The state government has rendered West Bengal unsafe. Intimidation has become a hallmark of Trinamool Congress. There is rampant fear-mongering in West Bengal that needs to be exposed. They claim that those who do not vote for Trinamool Congress are not true Bengalis. I remind Trinamool Congress that their era of thuggery is nearing its end. The countdown has begun," Prime Minister Modi asserted.
