PM Modi to Conduct Four Rallies in Tribal Areas of Bengal Today
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, April 19 (NationPress) As the campaign heats up for the upcoming two-phase Assembly elections in West Bengal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to hold four rallies on Sunday, all targeting tribal-dominated areas. A member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s state committee has indicated that the Prime Minister will concentrate on two main themes during his speeches: addressing the grievances of the tribal communities and highlighting the Trinamool Congress-led government's neglect of their needs for the past 15 years.
Additionally, the Prime Minister is expected to strongly reference the recent uproar concerning the supposed disrespect shown towards President Droupudi Murmu during her visit to West Bengal for an international seminar focused on the Santal Community.
Moreover, he will likely launch a fierce critique of the Trinamool Congress and other opposition parties for their role in obstructing the Women’s Reservation (Amendment) Bill.
The first rally is scheduled for Barjora in the Bankura district at 11 a.m., followed by events in Purulia at 12:45 p.m., Jhargram at 2:45 p.m., and concluding in Medinipur at 4:30 p.m.
A political back-and-forth has already begun in the state following the Prime Minister's address to the nation on Saturday night, where he expressed deep remorse and apologized to the women of India after the defeat of the Constitutional Amendment Bill aimed at implementing women's reservation in Parliament and state Assemblies.
The Trinamool Congress has responded, characterizing the Prime Minister's speech as self-pitying and an attempt to exploit women's political representation as a distraction from a delimitation conspiracy.
“The Prime Minister should have expressed his apologies when women were subjected to violence in Manipur or when they faced harassment on camera in Bihar. Dalit and tribal women have suffered heinous acts in BJP-ruled states, while your own leaders have committed atrocious acts of sexual violence and made derogatory remarks against women,” the statement contended.
Md Salim, a member of the CPI(M) politburo and the party's state secretary in West Bengal, stated that the Prime Minister's address was intended to mislead the public and promote divisive politics.
“By bringing the Women's Bill into controversy, the Prime Minister aims to divert attention from the pressing issue of women's reservation,” Salim remarked.
The West Bengal BJP unit asserts that the Prime Minister's address has clearly indicated how opposition parties have misled the public regarding the delimitation issue to block the Women’s Reservation Bill.
