Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, April 19 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) will face consequences in the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal for conspiring with Congress and other opposition factions to impede the Women’s Reservation (Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha. “The mothers and sisters of West Bengal will hold the TMC accountable for this betrayal,” he stated during a campaign rally in the Darjeeling district on Sunday morning.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the TMC is obstructing the rise of women as MLAs and MPs in West Bengal, as they pose a challenge to the TMC's misgovernance. “We witnessed the events unfold in Parliament. The TMC has once again turned its back on the women of West Bengal,” he remarked.
In his address, Modi also criticized the TMC and the state government for neglecting the needs and concerns of the tribal communities. “The TMC has no time for tribal issues but is more than willing to cater to illegal infiltrators,” he asserted. He condemned the party for attempting to undermine constitutional provisions to secure their vote bank. He noted that the High Court had reprimanded them multiple times for their actions.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the TMC's disregard for tribal communities was highlighted by the recent disrespect shown to President Droupadi Murmu during her visit to West Bengal for an International Santal Conference.
“The BJP has brought forth the nation's first tribal President, and we aim for their empowerment,” he said, criticizing the TMC for opposing the BJP's tribal candidate.
Modi highlighted that if the BJP gains power in West Bengal, the focus will be on ensuring the safety and empowerment of women. “Women here are deprived of many benefits they receive in BJP-ruled states,” he explained, pledging free rations and financial assistance for housing under PM Awas Yojana, along with healthcare support through the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
He concluded by stating, “West Bengal is turning away from TMC’s culture of corruption and is placing its trust in the BJP for honest governance and development.”
