Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 29 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday acknowledged the creative educational models being implemented, specifically praising the initiatives of the Prayog Institute of Education Research and the educational customs of the Naga community.
During the 132nd episode of his monthly radio show Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister referenced a popular adage to emphasize the significance of lifelong learning and active involvement in education.
“There is an age-old saying, ‘Karat Karat Abhyas Ke, Jadmat Hot Sujan’, which signifies that through persistent practice, we enhance our intellect. Individuals tend to learn more effectively when they actively engage in the process,” he articulated.
Discussing a remarkable initiative in Bengaluru, PM Modi shared insights about the efforts of the Prayog Institute of Education Research, a group dedicated to advancing educational projects driven by research. He highlighted the organization's mission to enhance science education at the school level.
“They have initiated a program titled Anveshan, which allows students from grades 9 to 12 to explore innovative ideas in fields such as Chemistry, Earth Science, and Wellness,” he remarked, noting that such programs grant students essential exposure to research and opportunities to share their findings.
The Prime Minister expressed that these initiatives provide students with “a highly valuable research experience and a venue to present their work,” which fosters confidence and curiosity among young minds.
Reflecting on his discussions with students during Pareeksha Pe Charcha, PM Modi mentioned that some students had conveyed their reluctance to delve into science due to apprehensions regarding the subject.
“The efforts of the Prayog team in this regard are admirable. This initiative enables students to immerse themselves in science and gain practical experience. Engaging directly fosters curiosity and enthusiasm. Who knows, perhaps one of these young individuals could become a distinguished scientist in the future,” he stated.
The Prime Minister also recognized the Naga community for successfully merging tradition with modern educational practices while safeguarding their cultural legacy. He noted that in Nagaland, the community maintains its traditional values while embracing contemporary methods of learning.
“The members of this community have a profound respect for their tribal heritage. They take pride in this blend of tradition and modernity. The Naga tribes have a historical Morung learning system, where elders impart traditional knowledge, history, and life skills to the youth through their experiences. Over the years, this system has evolved into the contemporary Morung educational concept. This framework cultivates children's interest in subjects such as mathematics and science,” he explained.
He further elaborated that within this system, elders impart life skills through stories, folk songs, and traditional games, ensuring that education remains culturally anchored while promoting intellectual development.
“In this manner, Nagaland is progressing in children's education while preserving its cultural heritage. If you come across similar initiatives in your community, I encourage you to share them with me,” the Prime Minister concluded.
