Radhakrishnan emphasized the vast potential of the Northeast in various sectors, including tourism, bamboo industries, organic farming, handicrafts, and digital services.
Expressing worries about the alarming rise in narcotic drug abuse among the youth, he urged them to avoid such substances and lead disciplined, purposeful lives.
The Vice President advised students to harness technology and social media in a responsible manner, encouraging them to become masters of technology rather than its subordinates.
He praised Mizoram’s rich natural heritage and notable literacy rates, commending the state’s strong tribal traditions and dedication to environmental issues. Radhakrishnan applauded Mizoram University for its significant use of solar energy, urging the youth to take a leading role in advancing environmental sustainability.
He congratulated the graduating students, urging them to be instrumental in establishing a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Highlighting the stunning beauty of the university campus, he mentioned that Mizoram University ranks among the most picturesque campuses and symbolizes what can be accomplished through education rooted in peace and purpose.
The convocation was graced by the presence of Mizoram's Governor and Chief Rector of Mizoram University, General (Retd.) Vijay Kumar Singh; Chief Minister Lalduhoma; and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka, alongside faculty members, distinguished guests, parents, and graduates.
After attending the eighth convocation ceremony of Nagaland University in Kohima, Vice-President Radhakrishnan arrived in Aizawl on Friday afternoon, marking his first visit to the state since taking office.
Upon landing at Lengpui Airport, he received a warm welcome from Mizoram Governor General Vijay Kumar Singh (retired), along with School Education Minister Vanlalthlana and other senior officials.
On Saturday, Radhakrishnan is set to travel to Tripura to serve as the chief guest at the 14th convocation of Tripura University on March 8. In Agartala, he will meet several 'Lakhpati Didis' and members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) at the International Trade and Fair Centre in Hapania on Sunday, and will also pay his respects at the Albert Ekka Memorial Park in Lichubagan.
