New Delhi, Sep 26 (NationPress) In a strategic move ahead of the forthcoming Bihar Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana on Friday at 11 a.m. through video conferencing, as confirmed by government officials.
During the event, the Prime Minister will directly deposit Rs 10,000 into the bank accounts of 75 lakh women across Bihar, totaling a staggering Rs 7,500 crore in the initial phase.
This initiative -- first announced by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar -- intends to empower women to become 'Aatmanirbhar' (self-reliant) by fostering self-employment and creating livelihood opportunities.
The scheme adopts a universal approach, offering financial support to one woman per family in the state, enabling them to embark on income-generating ventures of their choice.
Each beneficiary will receive an initial grant of Rs 10,000, followed by an assessment after six months. Based on progress, they may qualify for additional support of up to Rs 2 lakh.
Women will be trained by community resource persons from self-help groups to enhance their skills and effectively manage businesses.
Additionally, Gramin haat-bazaars will be upgraded to facilitate beneficiaries in marketing and selling their products.
This initiative is viewed as a pivotal step to empower women voters and bolster rural livelihoods, especially before the crucial state elections, where the NDA, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, is up against a robust challenge from the Grand Alliance (INDIA bloc).
On August 29, 2025, the Bihar government approved the launch of this scheme, aimed at providing women with financial support and self-employment opportunities.
The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at the Chief Minister's Secretariat, where the proposal received unanimous approval.
Under the scheme, one woman from each family in Bihar is eligible for the initial financial aid of Rs 10,000 to commence employment of her choice.
