Tel Aviv, Feb 25 (NationPress) Lauren Dagan Amos, an expert in Indian politics and foreign policy based in Tel Aviv, shared her insights on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit to Israel. She noted a palpable sense of pride, gratitude, and excitement in Israel regarding this significant trip.

Amos highlighted that India’s rapid economic growth, digital transformation, and enhanced diplomatic relations are key subjects during Modi's visit. She mentioned to IANS that there’s a keen anticipation to see the Prime Minister, as he often engages with the Indian diaspora during his international trips, which adds to the enthusiasm surrounding this visit.

Characterizing the meeting as pivotal, Amos emphasized that while this is not their first encounter, its significance has grown in the current geopolitical climate. The visit is likely to foster deeper collaboration in the economic, cultural, and defense sectors between the two nations.

Reflecting on the history of India-Israel relations, Amos pointed out that full diplomatic ties were established in January 1992, but a notable shift occurred post-2014. Previously, the relationship was somewhat limited and discreet, but it has since broadened to encompass economic and cultural partnerships.

Regarding security collaboration, Amos indicated both nations confront similar challenges, particularly concerning extremist threats on both domestic and international fronts. She remarked that recent military operations and the Gaza conflict have highlighted the critical need for robust air defense systems, suggesting that both countries can benefit from shared knowledge, which will further strengthen their strategic alliance.

She also mentioned this is PM Modi's second trip to Israel, marking it as historically significant since no Indian Prime Minister had visited the nation before 2017. Amid complex global challenges, his visit conveys a vital message, reinforcing that since October 7, India has consistently shown support for Israel, maintaining a strong bilateral relationship.

Concerning economic partnerships, Amos stated that investments have been the cornerstone of their bilateral ties, with agriculture and water management being focal points even prior to formal relations. She recalled Modi's visit to Israel in 2002 as Gujarat's Chief Minister, where he assessed investments, including those from the irrigation company, Netafim.

Amos noted that numerous agreements currently under discussion may have already been established earlier. Although no groundbreaking deals are anticipated during this visit, it could lay the groundwork for future collaborations. She added that defense cooperation has intensified over the last two years, highlighted by a recent memorandum signed during a high-level visit from Indian defense officials.

In conclusion, she asserted that the partnership should extend beyond security to include developmental sectors, promoting greater Israeli investments and technological cooperation in India for long-term mutual advantages.
