Kolkata, April 12 (NationPress) During a rally in Siliguri, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a pointed critique of the Trinamool Congress, asserting that the party's focus on appeasement politics is unmistakably evident in the state government's annual budgetary provisions.

“The Trinamool Congress administration allocated Rs 6,000 crore for the development of madrasa education. In stark contrast, the budgetary provisions for North Bengal, the entry point to Northeast India, are almost nonexistent. This clearly indicates that the focus of the Trinamool Congress-led government in West Bengal is solely on appeasement to a particular group,” the Prime Minister remarked while addressing supporters in the Darjeeling district.

He further reminded the audience about the Chief Minister’s participation in a Durga Puja festival in Kolkata last October, even as North Bengal was grappling with severe floods and landslides.

“At a time when North Bengal was suffering, the Trinamool government was busy celebrating in Kolkata. The Trinamool Congress is against North Bengal, tribal communities, tea gardens, women, and youth. It is time for change in West Bengal,” he stated.

He also accused Trinamool Congress leaders of supporting the “Tukde-Tukde (Divisive) gang,” which has threatened to sever the Siliguri Corridor through insurgent actions. “This 'Tukde-Tukde gang' in India recently posed a threat to the Siliguri Corridor. Leaders from Trinamool Congress back these factions. This reveals their true nature. Only a government led by BJP can safeguard the Siliguri Corridor and ensure national security,” he said.

Moreover, he accused the Trinamool Congress and the state administration of obstructing the Union government’s efforts to implement welfare projects in the state.

“Illegal infiltrators, who are favored by the ruling party, are obstructing the comprehensive development of West Bengal. Local residents are losing employment opportunities because of these infiltrators. This must be halted. Let the lotus bloom in West Bengal this time, enabling us to remove these illegal infiltrators from the state. Positive changes will follow,” the Prime Minister urged.

“You allowed the Left Front to govern for 34 years and gave the Trinamool Congress three continuous terms. Now, it’s time to give us a chance. Allow Modi the opportunity to protect women, generate employment, uphold the rule of law, provide free medical care to the underprivileged, and preserve Bengali culture from appeasement,” he concluded.

Point of View

The Prime Minister's remarks underscore the ongoing political tensions in West Bengal, particularly regarding budget allocations and community support. The emphasis on appeasement politics raises questions about governance and representation in the state.
