Patna, April 19 (NationPress) In a significant boost for urban enhancement in Bihar, the Central government has sanctioned approximately Rs 550 crore for the revitalization and modernization of Motihari city.

The funding comprises Rs 149 crore under the Namami Gange Mission and Rs 399 crore under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT).

This announcement was made by Bihar’s Urban Development and Housing Minister Jivesh Kumar Mishra during his recent visit to Motihari, accompanied by Member of Parliament Radha Mohan Singh.

The two officials examined proposed project sites and assessed the blueprint for the intended developments.

Minister Mishra stated that the multi-crore initiatives will prioritize the rejuvenation of the historic Motijheel, establish a modern Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), connect all municipal drains to the STP, and create walking pathways along both sides of the lake.

He highlighted that this effort is a collaborative initiative between the Central and state governments, aimed at significantly enhancing sanitation, environmental quality, and urban infrastructure in Motihari.

“Revitalizing Motijheel and improving water management systems are the primary focus of both the Central and state governments. These projects will not only beautify the city but also encourage a clean and healthy lifestyle for the residents,” Minister Jivesh Mishra mentioned while engaging with the media in Motihari.

The Namami Gange program, dedicated to restoring and cleaning the Ganga and its tributaries across states like Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal, has prioritized this initiative as part of its outreach in Bihar.

Simultaneously, AMRUT continues to provide funding for strategic infrastructure improvements in selected cities across India.

This program is anticipated to transform Motihari into a model city in Bihar by enhancing basic amenities, promoting eco-tourism, and safeguarding its cultural and natural heritage.

With the Bihar assembly election approaching, such initiatives are likely to resonate with the residents of the East Champaran district.
