When Does the Five-Day Winter Session of MP Assembly Commence?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhopal, Oct 29 (NationPress) The five-day Winter session of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly is set to commence on December 1 and will run until December 5, as confirmed in a notification from the Vidhan Sabha released on Wednesday.
The session will kick off on Monday, December 1, with a break on December 3 in remembrance of the Bhopal Gas tragedy.
Discussions will resume on December 4 and will wrap up on December 5.
In total, there will be four sittings during this Winter session.
Following the notification, the Opposition Congress expressed concerns regarding the brief duration of the Assembly session.
Leader of Opposition (LoP) and notable Congress figure Umang Singhar urged for an extension of the session, asserting that a five-day session with merely four sittings is insufficient for addressing critical public issues.
Singhar criticized the BJP government, suggesting that the short duration of the Assembly session is a deliberate attempt to avoid accountability.
“This clearly demonstrates that the BJP government is evading discussions on pressing public matters. They are unprepared to address various issues, particularly concerning law and order in the state,” stated LoP Singhar.
The Opposition is anticipated to raise concerns about farmers and Dalits in the region.
A recent incident involving a farmer from Guna, who was tragically run over by a vehicle while his daughters were assaulted, is expected to be a focal point in the Assembly.
LoP Singhar confirmed that the Opposition plans to challenge the BJP government on critical matters including law and order, incidents of violence against Dalits and tribals, youth employment, among others.
Additionally, during a conversation with IANS, the Congress signaled its intention to bring up the contentious 'feet-washing' case from Damoh, where a tribal individual was reportedly coerced into washing the feet of a Brahmin and consuming the water.
In a previous instance, the Assembly convened for an eight-day Monsoon Session starting on July 28.
During that session, the Opposition highlighted issues like unemployment, OBC reservation, drug smuggling, and fertilizer shortages through innovative protests.
