New Delhi, Aug 4 (NationPress) R. Sudha, a Member of Parliament representing the Mayiladuthurai Lok Sabha constituency in Tamil Nadu, has lodged a formal complaint with the Union Home Minister after a distressing chain-snatching incident during her morning walk in the diplomatic enclave of Delhi.
The event took place close to the Polish Embassy on Monday morning, raising alarming concerns regarding the safety of public officials in the nation’s capital.
In her correspondence, Sudha detailed the incident, explaining that at approximately 6:15 a.m., while walking near Gate Nos. 3 and 4 of the Polish Embassy alongside fellow MP Rajathi from the Rajya Sabha, a man donned in a full-face helmet and riding a scooter approached from the opposite direction and abruptly snatched her gold chain.
“Due to his slow movement, I did not perceive any threat. However, he swiftly yanked the chain from my neck, inflicting injuries and tearing my churidhar in the process,” Sudha recounted.
She managed to regain her balance and avoided a fall, but both MPs were left astonished and immediately called for assistance.
Having resided at Tamil Nadu House (Room No. 301) for over a year due to the lack of official accommodation, Sudha noted that she regularly engages in morning walks whenever possible.
The location of the incident is recognized as a high-security area, hosting numerous embassies and government establishments.
In the aftermath, the MPs reached out to a mobile patrol unit of the Delhi Police to report the chain-snatching.
They were advised to submit a written complaint at the local police station for further inquiry.
Sudha has appealed to the Union Home Ministry to implement immediate measures to bolster security, especially in areas frequented by parliamentarians and other officials.
She also underscored the necessity for enhanced surveillance and quick response systems to avert such occurrences in the future.
No arrests have been made thus far, but officials from Delhi Police have confirmed that they are reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity.
A formal investigation is currently underway. This incident has ignited concerns regarding the escalating challenges of law and order, even in the core of the national capital.
