Is Musk on the Path to Becoming the World’s First Trillionaire?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 16 (NationPress) Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is reportedly making significant strides towards becoming the world's first trillionaire. Recent reports indicate that SpaceX is launching a tender offer that values the company at a staggering $800 billion. As a result, Musk's wealth has skyrocketed by $168 billion, bringing his total net worth to approximately $677 billion.
Forbes has declared Musk as the first individual to achieve a net worth exceeding $600 billion.
Looking ahead, SpaceX is targeting an initial public offering (IPO) next year, which could potentially value the company at around $1.5 trillion.
Musk's stake in electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla, which constitutes 12 percent, is valued at $197 billion, not including stock options.
Additionally, Musk’s xAI Holdings is reportedly negotiating new funding at a valuation of about $230 billion. He owns a 53 percent stake in xAI Holdings, valued at $60 billion.
Back in September 2021, Musk became the third person to surpass a net worth of $200 billion. He reached $300 billion in November 2021, $400 billion in December 2024, and $500 billion in October.
Earlier this month, Musk dismissed claims that SpaceX is raising $800 billion or that NASA provides subsidies to his space enterprise. The Wall Street Journal initially reported that SpaceX is initiating a secondary share sale, which would position the rocket manufacturer as the most valuable private company in the U.S., surpassing OpenAI.
“There has been a lot of press claiming @SpaceX is raising money at $800B, which is not accurate. SpaceX has been cash flow positive for many years and conducts periodic stock buybacks twice a year to provide liquidity for employees and investors,” Musk stated in a series of posts on X.
He also noted that valuation increases are tied to progress with Starship and Starlink and securing global direct-to-cell spectrum, which considerably expands their market. “And one other thing that is arguably most significant by far,” he added.
