Hyderabad, Nov 9 (NationPress) Maganti Mahananda Kumari, the mother of the late BRS MLA from Jubilee Hills, Maganti Gopinath, expressed that the circumstances surrounding his death remain enigmatic. At the age of 92, she revealed that she was not notified about her son's demise.
“I am uncertain whether he passed on June 6 or June 8,” she stated to reporters, just a day after filing a complaint with the police, demanding an investigation into her son's death and the alleged negligence of those involved in his medical care.
With only two days left before the Jubilee Hills by-election, where Gopinath's second wife, Maganti Sunitha, is running as the candidate for the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), his mother, alongside his first wife Malini and their son Tarak, addressed the media.
Kumari accused that despite Gopinath's significant stature as a three-time MLA, she was barred from visiting him during his hospital stay.
She mentioned that they were informed of Gopinath's death on June 8, after BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) exited the hospital.
Additionally, she disclosed that Gopinath never divorced his first wife, yet the legal heir certificate excludes her name as well as that of Malini and Tarak.
Kumari expressed her frustration, stating she had implored KTR for justice, but he remained unresponsive. KTR did not keep them in the loop regarding Sunitha's candidacy announcement, she claimed.
“This is not a financial matter; it’s about our identity, which is why we are speaking to the media,” she asserted.
She revealed her anguish as Gopinath's mother, while Malini endured disrespect. Kumari believes Gopinath had a lingering affection for Malini, as evidenced by his failure to legally sever ties with her.
Tarak lamented their lack of legal recognition, emphasizing that his father had not officially divorced Malini. He noted that he was overseas for his studies, and his father had intended to attend his graduation, but tragically passed away unexpectedly.
Tarak claimed that Sunitha told him via phone that he need not return to India and could submit his resume, as 'KTR uncle' assured him a job opportunity.
When Sunitha submitted her nomination for the by-election, Malini and Tarak protested, asserting that Sunitha was in a live-in relationship with Gopinath, as he had not divorced Malini. However, the returning officer approved Sunitha's nomination.
On Saturday, Mahananda Kumari formally lodged a complaint at the Raidurgam Police Station, requesting a thorough investigation into the 'mysterious circumstances' of her son’s death.
She stated that her son, who faced multiple health issues and comorbidities, passed away at AIG Hospital, Gachibowli, on June 8, 2025. She alleged that discrepancies existed in the hospital's management of his treatment and the timing of the death notification, suggesting potential foul play.
Kumari further claimed she was barred from visiting her son while he was in intensive care at AIG Hospital, with security enforcing written instructions from an individual named Dishira.
