Kohima, April 10 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio, emphasized the growing global job market on Friday, revealing that over 450 young individuals have signed up for the 'Nagaland Japan Connect 2026' program. Notably, 65 candidates have already garnered recruitment interest in diverse sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and shipping.

During a conference with Deputy Commissioners, Rio underlined the importance of linking employment opportunities, declaring that skilling initiatives in the state are now intricately linked to placements through job fairs and strategic partnerships.

As of February 2026, more than 73,000 applicants have registered on the Live Register, with ongoing efforts to boost engagement in placement-linked programs like the Nagaland Japan Connect 2026 and the state’s comprehensive 'Mega Job Fair.'

Rio reiterated the government's dedication to transforming human resources into economic assets by ensuring that trained youth find meaningful employment, both locally and abroad.

He mentioned that collaboration among various departments, training partners, and financial institutions is enhancing the connections between skill development, entrepreneurship, and credit support, especially through initiatives like the Chief Minister’s Micro Finance Initiative.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the conference serves as a crucial platform to reflect on both the traditional and emerging responsibilities of Deputy Commissioners in a rapidly changing governance environment.

He affirmed that core duties, including maintaining law and order, revenue administration, conducting elections, census activities, and overseeing local governance structures, remain fundamental and non-negotiable.

Moreover, he pointed out that the role of Deputy Commissioners has significantly evolved to include effective execution of Centrally Sponsored Schemes, disaster management, grievance resolution, and inter-departmental coordination.

Rio stressed that the position has shifted from being merely regulatory to becoming facilitative and development-focused, with a keen emphasis on the last-mile delivery of welfare services.

He accentuated the district-level role of Deputy Commissioners, stating they lead various committees and coordination platforms, ensuring collaboration across departments and acting as a vital link between the government and the populace, thereby enhancing governance responsiveness and inclusivity.

Additionally, the Chief Minister reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to transparency and meritocracy, referencing the establishment of the Nagaland Staff Selection Board to ensure equitable recruitment for Group-C positions.

He also spotlighted initiatives like the Chief Minister’s Micro Finance Initiative as part of broader structural reforms aimed at improving livelihoods and fostering inclusive growth.

Regarding skill enhancement and workforce development, Rio noted that the Nagaland Skill and Entrepreneurship Development Mission has transitioned into a demand-driven and outcome-focused system in line with key sectors such as construction, hospitality, transport, and IT-enabled services.

He reiterated the government’s pledge to convert human resources into valuable economic assets by ensuring gainful employment for trained youth, both within and outside the state.

On a financial note, the Chief Minister expressed concern over the state’s fiscal condition following the 16th Finance Commission's recommendations, highlighting a decrease in Nagaland’s share of central taxes and the lack of Revenue Deficit Grants for the 2026–31 period, which present considerable challenges.
