On March 5, President Droupadi Murmu announced the appointment and transfer of Governors and Lieutenant Governors across various states and Union Territories.
Following these changes, former Bihar minister and Assembly Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav was appointed as the Governor of Nagaland.
In a message on the social media platform X, Chief Minister Rio expressed: “On behalf of the people of Nagaland, I extend my congratulations to Shri Nand Kishore Yadav ji on his new role as the Governor of Nagaland. I am eager to collaborate for the advancement and welfare of the state.”

Yadav will take over from Ajay Kumar Bhalla, who has been managing the gubernatorial responsibilities of Nagaland in addition to Manipur since August 25 of the previous year.
Manipur Governor Bhalla, a former Union Home Secretary, was assigned the additional charge of Nagaland by President Murmu on August 16 last year, just a day after the passing of Nagaland Governor La. Ganesan on August 15 at the age of 80.
At the age of seventy-three, Yadav has been actively involved with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since 1969 and participated in the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) starting in 1971.
He held the presidency of the Bihar unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party from 1998 to 2003 and has occupied several significant positions in the Bihar government.
In February 2024, he was elected as the 17th Speaker of the Bihar Assembly.
Yadav is regarded as one of the senior leaders within the BJP in Bihar, and his new role as the Governor of Nagaland is seen as a testament to his extensive political experience and contributions to public service.
He has been elected seven times as an MLA from the Patna Sahib constituency, previously known as the Patna Paschim Assembly seat, representing the BJP.
