Kohima, March 13 (NationPress) Veteran politician and ex-Bihar Minister Nand Kishore Yadav was sworn in as the 23rd Governor of Nagaland on Friday. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice Ashutosh Kumar of the Gauhati High Court during a modest ceremony at Lok Bhavan in Kohima.

Attending the event were Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy Chief Ministers Yanthungo Patton and T.R. Zeliang, along with members of the state Cabinet and high-ranking civil, security, and military officials. The ceremony was organized by Chief Secretary Sentiyanger Imchen.

The Chief Minister extended his congratulations to Yadav on his new role as Governor of Nagaland.

On March 5, President Droupadi Murmu announced a reshuffle of Governors and Lieutenant Governors across six states and two union territories.

As part of the changes, former Bihar Minister and Assembly Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav was appointed as the Governor of Nagaland, succeeding Ajay Kumar Bhalla, who had been handling Nagaland's charge since August 25 of the previous year while also serving as the Governor of Manipur.

Bhalla, a former Union Home Secretary, was given the additional responsibility by President Murmu following the passing of Nagaland Governor La. Ganesan on August 15 last year at the age of 80.

At 73, Yadav has a long history in politics, having joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in 1969 and later becoming involved with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in 1971. He was the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Bihar unit from 1998 to 2003 and has held various significant portfolios in the Bihar government.

In February 2024, he was elected as the 17th Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly. His appointment as Governor of Nagaland is viewed as a testament to his extensive political career and contributions to public service.

Yadav has been elected seven times as an MLA from the Patna Sahib constituency, previously known as the Patna Paschim Assembly seat, representing the BJP.
