Chandigarh, April 23 (NationPress) A 26-year-old Navy officer, Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, who recently tied the knot on April 16, from Karnal in Haryana, was tragically among the 16 victims of the devastating Pahalgam terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
He was enjoying his honeymoon in Pahalgam when the horrific incident took place. His wife, Himanshi, is from Gurugram.
The wedding reception was celebrated on April 19. Originally from Bhusli village in Karnal district, Narwal was residing in Sector 7 of Karnal city.
He had embarked on his Navy career three years prior.
His wife recounted, "We were just having bhelpuri... and then a gunman shot my husband. The assailant claimed my husband was not a Muslim and then shot him."
Lieutenant Narwal's neighbor, Seema, shared with the media that Vinay's wedding was celebrated with much joy.
"The celebrations lasted for 10 days. He was such a wonderful person. He completed his engineering and then passed the Navy exam to become a Class I officer. They had planned a honeymoon in Switzerland, but due to his leave constraints, they opted for Kashmir instead. This tragedy struck so abruptly, as if an evil eye had fallen upon them."
"We received the news last night. I can’t fathom the pain his family is enduring. His twin sister and father have gone to retrieve his body," she added.
Another neighbor commented, "He had just been married a few days ago; only four days back was his reception, and there was joy all around here. Today, we learn that terrorists have taken his life."
Initial reports indicated that Lieutenant Narwal sustained gunshot wounds to his chest, neck, and left arm, and was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. A defense spokesperson confirmed that the Indian Navy officer was killed during the Pahalgam terror attack while on leave.
