Srinagar, April 22 (NationPress) An Indian Navy officer was among the tourists tragically killed by terrorists at the scenic hill station of Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir.
A defense official confirmed the identity of the officer, stating, “Lieutenant Vinay Narwal (26 years old), who was stationed in Kochi, was fatally injured in the Pahalgam attack while on leave. He hails from Haryana and recently celebrated his marriage on April 16.”
While officials indicated that the official death toll from Tuesday's terror incident will be announced after compiling the names and addresses of the victims, sources have disclosed to IANS that 26 tourists have lost their lives, which includes two foreign nationals. Additionally, 20 individuals have sustained injuries, comprising both tourists and local residents.
The majority of the injured are in stable condition and receiving treatment at the local hospital in Pahalgam, while those with severe injuries have been transferred to Srinagar for specialized care.
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the valley and Jammu has announced a protest shutdown in response to the terror attack scheduled for tomorrow.
Local merchants, travel operators, and other community members have rallied in support of this shutdown.
Candlelight vigils have taken place in Srinagar, Pahalgam, Baramulla, and various other locations, with protesters demanding accountability and punishment for those responsible for the Pahalgam massacre.
This incident marks one of the most significant terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama attack. Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened a high-level security meeting at Raj Bhawan in Srinagar.
