Is NCP Taking Legal Action Against Fake AI Clips Featuring Ajit Pawar?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Feb 18 (NationPress) The state president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Sunil Tatkare, issued a warning on Wednesday regarding potential legal repercussions for individuals disseminating fraudulent AI-generated audio and video clips that falsely portray the former Deputy Chief Minister and party national president, Ajit Pawar.
Tatkare accused certain parties of spreading deceptive and misleading statements crafted to mimic Ajit Pawar's voice, aimed at advancing specific political and social agendas.
He emphasized that the distribution of such AI-generated materials constitutes a serious and prosecutable offense, urging those responsible to cease sharing these fabricated items immediately, or face stringent legal actions.
“There is profound respect, love, and trust for Respected Dada throughout Maharashtra. Exploiting these sentiments to sow confusion among the public and party members is a perilous and malicious act. The misuse of a deceased leader's image in this context is exceptionally unethical and worthy of condemnation. Our party is determined to pursue cases under cyber laws and all relevant legal frameworks to ensure the offenders are brought to justice,” Tatkare stated.
He also urged the public to refrain from sharing any dubious audio or video clips and to verify the credibility of content before posting it on social media platforms.
“The late Ajit Pawar was a revered leader in Maharashtra. Spreading falsehoods in his name after his passing poses a threat to social harmony and undermines democratic values. The Nationalist Congress Party vehemently denounces such actions and demands an immediate halt to these practices,” Tatkare added.
Previously, the NCP had called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into Ajit Pawar's tragic death in a plane crash in Baramati on January 28. Tatkare mentioned that a memorandum was submitted to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis regarding this matter.
According to Tatkare, the Chief Minister assured the delegation that the state government would engage with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to facilitate the requested CBI investigation.
The party has pointed out what it describes as “serious irregularities and suspicious circumstances” surrounding the crash, which include alleged last-minute modifications to the flight crew, concerns regarding operational decisions and authorizations, and discrepancies in Air Traffic Control (ATC) communications and runway clearances.
The NCP also expressed apprehensions about the functionality and reliability of certain onboard safety warning systems, advocating for a thorough and independent investigation into the incident.
