Amaravati, June 12 (NationPress) The NDA government in Andhra Pradesh has decided to postpone its celebrations originally scheduled for Thursday to mark the first anniversary, following the tragic air disaster in Ahmedabad.
The government, led by the TDP, had arranged an event titled ‘Suparlipalana - Swarnandra Pradesh’ for Thursday evening.
Expressing his sorrow over the catastrophic event, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu opted to defer the festivities.
The event was intended to showcase the government's accomplishments over the past year and outline its objectives for the upcoming four years. Additionally, the government aimed to communicate its vision behind various initiatives undertaken.
Naidu took to social media platform X to convey his condolences regarding the air tragedy. "I am deeply shocked and saddened by the devastating flight crash in Ahmedabad. Our thoughts and prayers are with those on board, their families, and the affected residents," he wrote.
Air India’s Flight AI171, bound for London and carrying 242 individuals (including crew), tragically crashed near Ahmedabad airport shortly after its departure.
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, who was in Vijayawada for the NDA government's anniversary celebrations, immediately headed to Ahmedabad upon learning about the crash.
Naidu, a member of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), shortened his schedule to personally manage the situation on the ground.
Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan also expressed his profound grief regarding the air crash.
"I am heartbroken over the tragic Air India flight crash in Ahmedabad. My sincere prayers go out to all passengers and crew. As we await further updates, I extend my deepest sympathies to the families during these challenging times. May they find strength and support amidst this distress," he posted.
"I am shocked and deeply saddened by the disastrous crash of Air India’s London-bound Boeing Dreamliner just after takeoff from Ahmedabad. The flight, carrying 242 people, went down near Meghani Nagar mere minutes after departure. I offer my heartfelt condolences to the grieving families and pray for all those impacted by this tragic occurrence. I urge the authorities to ensure prompt rescue, relief, and a thorough investigation into the cause," stated Nara Lokesh, Minister of Andhra Pradesh and TDP general secretary.
