Chennai, Jan 18 (NationPress) As the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections approach, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is gearing up to officially commence its campaign with a significant rally led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Madurantakam on January 23.
This announcement was made on Sunday by Nainar Nagenthran, the BJP state president and legislative party leader, indicating the alliance's determination to mount a strong challenge against the incumbent DMK.
In statements to the media, Nagenthran confirmed that the Prime Minister will address a large public assembly in the afternoon, marking the start of the NDA's electoral contest in the region.
"On January 23, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will kick off the NDA campaign in Madurantakam. He will be present to highlight the failures of the current anti-people DMK administration in Tamil Nadu," he stated.
When pressed about the final roster of NDA alliance partners, particularly the potential inclusion of T. T. V. Dhinakaran's AMMK, former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, and the DMDK, Nagenthran refrained from identifying specific parties or leaders.
Nonetheless, he hinted at a visible show of solidarity during the Madurantakam rally.
"You will witness that on the stage on January 23," he remarked, noting that "all leaders will have a place on the stage" during the Prime Minister's visit.
Nagenthran also addressed the ongoing exchanges between the DMK and AIADMK regarding accusations of "plagiarized" election promises.
Defending the AIADMK's manifesto, he highlighted that party leader Edappadi K Palaniswami had previously promised Rs 1,500 as monthly support for women, which has now been increased to Rs 2,000.
"It's not fair to label it as a copy simply because a similar initiative exists," he stated, asserting that "a profound change is forthcoming in the sentiments of the populace".
In response to reports claiming the Union Ministry of Defence had dismissed the proposed Hosur International Airport project, Nagenthran refuted those assertions.
"Permission has not been rejected. Some clarifications have been requested, and it would be misleading to label it as a rejection," he clarified.
The rally on January 23 is anticipated to be a pivotal moment for the NDA as it positions itself as the primary alternative to the Dravidian parties ahead of the 2026 Assembly polls.
