New Delhi, April 17 (NationPress) As summer approaches, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) convened on Thursday to deliberate on fire safety, prevention, and emergency response measures for high-rise buildings.
During a seminar entitled ‘Fire Safety in High Rise Buildings’, the civic body executed a fire safety demonstration as part of the ongoing 'Fire Service Week 2025', which carries the theme of "Unite to Ignite, a Fire Safe India".
Alka Bijlani, Director (Fire Service) at NDMC, emphasized that fire safety should not just be a weekly focus but rather an ongoing commitment.
She highlighted that the NDMC Fire Department frequently organizes fire safety training sessions across various venues, including schools, hospitals, electric substations, old age homes, offices, and markets.
According to Bijlani, the Fire Service Week underscores the importance of community engagement, education, preparedness, and innovative practices in fire safety.
The live demonstration showcased fire-fighting equipment, skills, and techniques, collaboratively organized by the NDMC fire department and the Delhi Fire Service.
Atul Garg, chief of the Delhi Fire Service, stated that each firefighter bears the vital responsibility of alerting the public to any disasters.
He acknowledged the challenges and dangers inherent in their duties and urged students to champion fire safety awareness.
NDMC Fire Officer Somvir Singh noted that the Fire Service Week is observed from April 14 to April 20, in remembrance of the 66 firefighters who lost their lives in the tragic 1944 Bombay Dockyard fire.
This week also aims to enhance public consciousness regarding fire safety and prevention.
The week-long observance, guided by the Fire Officer, features various activities designed to educate the public and advocate fire safety initiatives. This effort illustrates NDMC’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property from fire hazards within NDMC buildings.
