Ranchi, Sep 2 (NationPress) Jharkhand's Chief Minister, Hemant Soren, announced on Tuesday that the Netarhat Residential School, recognized as the state's premier educational institution, will transition to a co-educational format beginning next session, allowing girls to enroll for the first time since its establishment in 1954.
Previously, this esteemed school was exclusively for boys.
Located in the scenic hills of Latehar district, the Netarhat Residential School is celebrated by its alumni and is often referred to as the “Doon School of Jharkhand”. It has been a nurturing ground for over 500 civil servants, including numerous IAS and IPS officers.
In addition, the Chief Minister disclosed that the state government aims to launch three new educational institutions modeled after Netarhat to enhance access to top-tier residential education.
During the event, CM Soren presented appointment letters to 975 newly recruited postgraduate trained teachers, assistant professors, and laboratory assistants at a ceremony held at the state secretariat.
This gathering also celebrated academic success. The Chief Minister honored the leading students of the 2025 matriculation and intermediate examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC), as well as exceptional performers from the CBSE and ICSE boards.
Each top student received a 125 cc scooty, a laptop, a mobile phone, and a cheque of Rs 3 lakh to aid their further studies.
In his address, CM Soren emphasized that education is a top priority for his administration. “Our aim is to ensure that government schools are on par with private institutions. We aspire for every child in government schools to have access to equivalent resources and opportunities,” he stated.
Touching on welfare initiatives for students, Soren announced the Guruji Credit Card Scheme, which will offer loans of up to Rs 15 lakh without collateral, ensuring that financial barriers do not impede higher education or career goals. He also reminded attendees of the 100 percent scholarship scheme that assists students pursuing higher education abroad.
The program also saw the official launch of the Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar Yojana and the Jharkhand E-Shiksha Mahotsav, both initiatives aimed at fostering innovation, cleanliness, and technology-enhanced learning in schools.
The event was attended by Education Minister Radha Krishna Kishore, Ministers Sanjay Prasad Yadav and Shilpi Neha Tirkey, Rajya Sabha MP Mahua Maji, along with senior officials from the state education department.
