Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 31 (NationPress) The Secretary of Minority Affairs, Chandra Shekhar Kumar, has introduced two new modules on the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency, and Development (UMEED) Central Portal, aimed at increasing transparency, as reported on Saturday.
These modules—the Survey Module and the Waqf Property Lease Module—are designed to enhance the Ministry’s objectives of utilizing digital governance tools to improve efficiency, transparency, and accountability in managing Waqf properties, according to a statement from the Ministry of Minority Affairs.
The Survey Module offers a robust digital framework for the collection, management, and updating of data concerning the survey of Waqf properties on the portal.
Meanwhile, the Waqf Property Lease Management Module is tailored for comprehensive management of leasing information related to Waqf properties via the portal.
This module enables organized recording and oversight of essential details such as lease information, duration, amounts, and other significant aspects, thus enhancing accountability in the leasing process of Waqf properties.
Following the module launch, Secretary Chandra Shekhar Kumar urged all State/UT Waqf Boards to ensure widespread adoption of these tools and to promote awareness among eligible beneficiaries.
The UMEED Central Portal, which was inaugurated by Union Minister of Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju on June 6, 2025, functions as a centralized digital platform for real-time monitoring, uploading, and verification of Waqf properties under the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency, and Development Act of 1995.
This portal is set to transform the administration of Waqf assets across India by fostering enhanced transparency, accountability, and community engagement.
Its key features include the establishment of a comprehensive digital inventory with geo-tagging of Waqf properties, an online grievance redressal mechanism to ensure prompt responses, transparent leasing and usage tracking, integration with GIS mapping and other e-Governance tools, as well as public access to verified records and reports.
The Ministry of Minority Affairs is collaborating closely with States/UTs and State Waqf Boards to ensure effective management of Waqf properties nationwide.
