Mumbai, June 22 (NationPress) – In anticipation of the upcoming rules for the Waqf portal, Union Minority Affairs Secretary Chandra Shekhar Kumar convened a review meeting with officials from Maharashtra to ensure the seamless uploading of property details on UMEED, as stated by an official on Sunday.

The Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development Act, 1995 (UMEED) Central Portal, which was launched on June 6, necessitates the establishment of rules to meet statutory requirements.

During Saturday's meeting, the Secretary urged for active involvement and welcomed input from state officials to enhance the implementation process.

According to the UMEED Portal's directives, information on all registered Waqf properties throughout India must be uploaded within a six-month timeframe.

The meeting was attended by the state secretary, senior officials, and the CEO of the Maharashtra State Waqf Board. This was the Secretary's second review following a similar session in Bihar the previous week.

Secretary Chandra Shekhar Kumar emphasized the importance of proactive engagement and invited suggestions from state officials to facilitate the implementation process, as conveyed in an official statement.

The CEO of the Waqf Board urged the Centre to reconsider and simplify certain leasing provisions concerning Waqf properties. The Union Secretary assured that this request would be evaluated favorably, reaffirming the Centre’s dedication to empowering Waqf Boards and improving Waqf property management.

In addition to reviewing the UMEED implementation, the Secretary also examined the progress of projects under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) in Maharashtra.

He instructed state officials to submit all outstanding proposals to the Ministry within a week for necessary actions.

Kumar also met with officials from the Haj Committee of India (HCoI) in Mumbai, commending them for the smooth and successful execution of Haj 2025.

He expressed satisfaction that this year saw the lowest number of deaths and health-related incidents among Indian Haj pilgrims.

This achievement was attributed to enhanced coordination between the Ministry, the Haj Committee of India, delegations, Saudi Arabian authorities, and local support systems.

The Secretary specifically praised the efficiency of the Haj Suvidha App, which significantly improved the pilgrim experience and mitigated on-ground challenges.

He indicated that insights from this year's Haj operations would inform further enhancements for Haj 2026.
