Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guwahati, Dec 14 (NationPress) – The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has maintained its impressive performance in freight unloading for November, as reported by officials on Sunday.
NFR’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma revealed that the total number of freight-carrying rakes unloaded reached 1,114 during the month, reflecting a significant growth of 7.95 percent from 1,032 rakes in the same month last year.
Throughout November, NFR facilitated the seamless transportation of various essential goods, such as FCI (Food Corporation of India) rice, sugar, salt, edible oil, food grains, fertilizers, cement, coal, vegetables, automobiles, tankers, and more. These shipments were efficiently unloaded at multiple goods sheds across its jurisdiction. A substantial part of the freight movement is focused on fulfilling the needs of the Northeastern states.
According to the NFR CPRO, in November 2025, Assam alone was responsible for unloading 624 rakes, including 324 that carried essential commodities. In the same timeframe, Tripura had 87 rakes unloaded, while Nagaland saw 23, Arunachal Pradesh had 8, Manipur recorded 23, Meghalaya had 1, and Mizoram accounted for 12 rakes, he noted.
Sharma added that within the NFR jurisdiction, 183 rakes were unloaded in West Bengal and 153 in Bihar, encompassing both essential and non-essential items. The ongoing movement of critical and other goods is crucial for fulfilling the daily requirements of the populace while bolstering the economic landscape of the region.
Every level of monitoring has proven effective in minimizing turnaround time and enhancing overall unloading efficiency, according to NFR officials.
The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) operates across the Northeastern states and includes seven districts in West Bengal and five in northern Bihar.
In preparation for the upcoming foggy and adverse weather season, NFR is undertaking extensive measures to ensure safe train operations.
NFR’s CPRO Sharma previously stated that in accordance with Railway Board guidelines, the zone is outfitting locomotives with Fog Safe Devices to aid Loco Pilots in recognizing signals and markers under low visibility situations.
Additionally, automatic signaling systems are being enhanced according to updated standards to improve reliability and safety during foggy conditions, he added.
In anticipation of the fog season, NFR has bolstered its infrastructure by ensuring sufficient availability of detonators, marking key track locations with lime for better visibility, repainting signal sighting boards and level crossing gates with luminous strips, and installing LED flasher tail lamps on rear coaches.
