Northeast Frontier Railway Enhances Supply of Goods to NE States: Official

Guwahati, Jan 9 (NationPress) The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has significantly increased the provision of essential items, including food grains, fertilizers, transport fuel, coal, and other products to the mountainous northeastern states, particularly the conflict-ridden Manipur, as stated by officials on Wednesday.

The NFR Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, noted that the NFR has demonstrated its commitment to ensuring the delivery of both essential and non-essential goods to every region within its jurisdiction by successfully unloading 1,184 freight-carrying rakes in December 2024.

This achievement represents the highest monthly unload in the 2024-25 fiscal, raising the total number of unloaded rakes to 9,404 by the end of December 2024, he added.

The CPRO highlighted that during December, the NFR transported a variety of goods, including vital supplies such as Food Corporation of India (FCI) rice, sugar, salt, edible oil, food grains, fertilizers, transport fuel, coal, and other essential items, which were unloaded at various goods sheds across its jurisdiction.

In December 2024, a total of 638 rakes of freight-carrying trains were unloaded in Assam, out of which 314 were loaded with essential commodities.

Additionally, 98 rakes were unloaded in Tripura, 15 rakes in Nagaland, 13 rakes in Arunachal Pradesh, four rakes in Manipur, and 10 rakes in Mizoram during the same month.

Furthermore, 211 freight rakes were also unloaded in West Bengal and 195 freight rakes in Bihar last month within the NFR's jurisdiction.

Sharma pointed out that the rapid execution of doubling works in critical sections and improved terminal handling facilities have facilitated increased freight transportation both inward and outward.

Ongoing monitoring at all levels has contributed to a decrease in turnaround time and has improved unloading efficiency.

This leads to enhanced movement of essential and other goods, along with growth in freight unloading, the official emphasized.

The NFR operates across the northeastern states and in seven districts of West Bengal and five districts of north Bihar, managing over 6,400 km of tracks within its jurisdiction.
