Nigerian and Bangladeshi Nationals Arrested in Tripura for Illegal Border Crossing

Agartala, Dec 9 (NationPress) In a series of operations, the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel detained a Nigerian national, three Bangladeshi nationals, and an Indian tout in Tripura on Monday, officials reported.
A BSF spokesperson mentioned that following specific intelligence, a checkpoint was established at Kaiyedhepa in Sepahijala district, leading to the arrest of a Nigerian national named Maxwel Nweke (34).
This Nigerian national was observed acting suspiciously along the India-Bangladesh border road, attempting to cross into Bangladesh from India.
Using information received from the Nigerian, BSF troops also apprehended an Indian tout, Suraj Prasad, from Amtali in West Tripura, who was trying to flee the scene on a motorcycle.
Prasad is recognized as a notorious tout, and the BSF has been actively pursuing him, the spokesperson stated.
In a separate operation, BSF officials arrested a 15-year-old Bangladeshi girl from Mangroli in North Tripura district.
The girl was reportedly trying to cross the border fence to enter India.
She informed the BSF that she hails from Chandpur village in Moulvibazar district, Bangladesh.
Additionally, in a coordinated operation with another agency in Agartala, the BSF apprehended two more Bangladeshi nationals, one of whom is a woman, in West Tripura.
Both individuals are from Bagerhat district in Bangladesh.
The spokesperson highlighted that the BSF has ramped up its surveillance and operations along the 856 km India-Bangladesh border in Tripura to thwart infiltration, exfiltration, and cross-border crimes, including smuggling.
In the past four months, more than 560 Bangladeshi nationals and over 63 Rohingyas have been detained by the Government Railway Police, BSF, and Tripura Police from Agartala railway station and other locations in Tripura for unlawfully entering India.
So far this year (2024), 55 Rohingyas among 700 illegal immigrants from Bangladesh have been caught in Tripura, with BSF alone seizing contraband valued at approximately Rs 50 crore.
